Google Nexus One here in Qatar or in the Philippines

Finally, after some speculations and little bit of hype as many are craving for the “next one” to Apple iPhone, Google announced last night their new flagship Nexus One phone. Powered by the latest Android 2.1 OS and manufactured by HTC. The unit sells for $529 unlock with free shipping but only in US and I think as of now UK, Hong Kong and Singapore – not here in Qatar or in the Philippines.

Just for curiosity, I tried immediately ordering and here’s how I did it.

First, you need to use a US proxy or VPN service. Use Google search for US Proxy or VPN. Just be careful in selecting this service as anything in the middle of your session to Google server can sniff your data. If you can go for some premium paid services, I think it is a better option since you’ll be using your Google Checkout to complete this order. I’ll not personally recommend what service to use just be extra careful and do some research first.

Once you setup your US VPN or Proxy, go to www.google.com/phone, login with your google account and there you can order your Nexus One.

One more requirement is you need a US or UK delivery address. Hong Kong or Singapore address I think might work as well. In my case, I have account in Aramex Shop and Ship, so I already have US and UK address. If you are here in Qatar, you can try same or use DHL. For Philippines I heard many similar services like MyUSmailbox and JohnnyAir.

Google Nexus One

I would appreciate it if you could answer a few of my questions:
(1) Do you know anyone who has successfully recieved it outside the US?
(2) Aramex's address is in NY, so I would have to pay 8% NY tax; wouldn't it be better to use DHL?
(3) Can you estimate what the total cost would be?
(4) Would the phone work on Qtel / Vodafone's networks?
(5) Would I have to get the international AC adaptor?

Some of the users in this forum have been reporting problems ordering it from Australia.
So, please do keep us posted if you receive yours.

Nexus One APN in the Philippines (Smart Buddy)

First time that I use my Nexus One here in the Philippines and I’m using my Smart Buddy roaming number.

To enable data, just add “internet” (without quotes) as your APN name in Access Point Names.

Leave everything blank and just to make sure, restart your Nexus One.

Smart is offering right now unlimited plan for daily, weekly and monthly basis. Check Smart for more details and latest promotions.

With always-online feature of Nexus One, you better only use the unlimited plan to avoid charging. For sure there’s a similar plan or promo in Globe. Check which one is affordable for you.

i enquired abt to buy nexus phone throw aramex US mail box ...
The prob. is if we order first time we need to pay extra 900 QR to ICTQatar for aproval ...

I ordered now total of 2 Nexus One, and I didn't pay any extra for ICT.

Of course, maybe cases varies, but good to know if this is really the case.

Can anyone please confirm or share your experience?

There was no tax in my order, I paid exactly $529 including free FedEx overnight to my NY address. Aramex shipping charge will be around 150QAR.

Theoretically it should work here in Qatar (Qtel and Vodafone).

Since I presume I can charge it thru USB, AC adaptor should not be a concern.

NY Tax

Not sure about consolidation in Aramex, but I don't think so.

By the way, Aramex shipping charge is 70QAR - that means the total cost of Nexus One is around 2,170QAR.

My shipment hopefully will be here by Saturday. I'll try to post here my impressions and any problem I encounter to warn others planning to buy and bring here in Qatar.

I have Nexus One here in Qatar and 3G works strangely very rare case. I don't know the reason, hope someone can tell us.

I have the Nexus One on Qtel

I have the Nexus One on Qtel and all functions work fine (3g, internet, etc.). The settings for the data need to be input manually for Qtel as the network does not recognise the phone to send the settings sms. The phone is amazing, the only problem is how I'm going to get the dock and car cradle delivered here!

buy it online. available in google store or in amazon. love the nexus one too - more intimate than iPhone.
