Work

Windows and Linux on IBM Lenovo

I got today 2 new Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM Lenovo Desktop PC. One of them - I dual-booted with Windows XP SP2 and Vista Ultimate; and the other one - I multi-booted it with Ubuntu 7.4, CentOS 5, Fedora 7, and openSUSE 10.2.

They are all screaming fast!

Jetlag or Higher Spirit?

As I’m writing this it is already 3:08am local time here in the Philippines. Well, just 10:08pm there in Qatar. No surprise, I’m still alive and kicking. I’m not feeling tired at all or sleepy even I had ample amount of activities whole day today, errr yesterday.

Last 4 days before I left Qatar, I was sleeping as early as 9pm and waking up at 2am. Going to work at 3am and really work hard to finish all the things I need to finish before my vacation especially the turnover of my responsibilities to my boss.

Last 3 days of my life in Qatar was like I was a different Sandro. I was so focus and like in a different zone. I accomplished within those 3 days, things usually I accomplished in month.

Compare to all my vacations in the past, only this time I am really satisfied. Satisfied because I knew I did more than the best that I can. Before, vacation is like escaping from my reality - going away to job responsibilities. But now, vacation for me is simply a break. A break that I truly deserve as I did great all year long that I was working.

A while ago, I was very happy chatting to my boss, asking the status of the company. Solving some minor problems that he encountered since I left. Helping him sorting those problem even I’m far. Giving him some advices and supporting him in some issues he need to deal with in the upcoming days.

Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 R2 Replication

It’s another exhausting day today. I spent almost whole day reading and figuring out how to effectively replicate our Data Center from good old Windows 2000 Server to a brand new and shining Windows 2003 R2 server.

In the morning when I went to work, I was very determined and I was sure that I will be using Windows Server 2003 R2 DFSR feature as a solution and it will be an easy day for me today.

The problem is, it only works perfectly when both the servers are in Windows 2003 R2, but in my case as I said the source server is a Windows 2000.

I tried many ways to make it work. I read almost all available resources, but no joy in the end. It works somehow when I’m using the old and Windows 2000 way of doing DFS replica, but it breaks in the end.

Overwork

My last 3 days was like crazy days for me. Heck, I worked on the average of 14 hours a day and still not enough, hahaha! I’m configuring 9 new servers, migrating data from the old servers, and at the same time documenting each steps. I’ll try to post here later some of my experiences and pain, hehehe.

For now, time for me to sleep as tomorrow is another long day for me.

Oh yeah, happy valentine's day to all!

Murphy visited our network

Yesterday was a crazy day for me. Supposed to be we were meeting IBM blue guys in our Doha Office to discuss something I cannot reveal here, when our IT Support called me and said two buildings were down! I rushed back to the main office and while I'm on the road I was thinking, this is it! I knew it gonna happed, it's a matter of unexpected time.

What I'm doing?
